Alice Cooper's autobiographical film is the true story straight from the horse's mouth. The film is a mix of documentary archive footage, animation, and rock opera that Alice and the crew lovingly refer to as a "Doc Opera."
Born Vincent Furnier, the son of a preacher, he went on to become Alice Cooper, the front man for one of the wildest bands in the history of rock music. From his original meetings with Frank Zappa, who signed the band
to their first record deal, (even though he claimed not to "get" the band's appeal), through all the trials and tribulations that the touring musician lifestyle brings, Alice tells it like it happened.
Uunlike many who might produce a film about themselves, Alice doesn't whitewash over the bad times.
More importantly, he takes full responsability for the drug and booze fueled madness that destroyed his band and nearly killed him.
Alice, and many other Rock & Roll legends such as Iggy Pop, Bernie Taupin, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, and Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols, who auditioned for the Pistols by screeching out his rendition of Cooper's song "18," tell the tale of Alice Cooper vs Vincent Fernier like a real-life Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde tale. The film also documents Cooper's rising from the ashes of his alcohol soaked past like a Pheonix to claim his position as one of the most loved and respected Godfathers of the Metal genre. |
